Toys to Avoid this Holiday Season

As the holiday season rolls around, the toy markets go into over-drive producing the best and brightest toys for kids. The toys of our youth have now passed, and the stretch-Armstrong’s and lite-brites of our generation have fallen by the wayside to be replaced with bigger and better versions. However, these new toys aren’t always the safest. Often times, toys can cause a hazard to young children which is why you need to be on the lookout when shopping for the perfect present. Below is a list of toys that can present a danger to children and should probably be avoided:

ZOO JAMZ XYLOPHONE

This toy may be bright and colorful, but the danger posed by a small infant putting the drumstick in their mouth might be too great. This can potentially obstruct the child’s airways and may not be the best present because of that.

STOMP ROCKET

The stomp rocket was something I remember vividly playing with when I was a child. With personal experience, I can say that an impact from this is not fun to be on the receiving end of. Let the gift of giving be the primary impact of this holiday season, not the gift itself.

NERF GUNS

Everyone loves a good nerf war but, no one loves getting hit in the eye with one of the darts. While the darts may be foam, the velocity at which the darts come out of the toy combined with unprotected eyes is bound to lead to some misfortunate accidents. If you want to enjoy the Nerf Gun wars, make sure you have protective eyewear!

POWER RANGERS SUPER NINJA STEEL SUPERSTAR BLADE

The power Rangers franchise has been around for a long time, but their newest toy may be cause for concern. With a spring-loaded plastic blade, the potential for impact injuries is greater than the damage done by Rita Repulsa from the show.

PULL ALONG TOYS

One of the best parts about growing up was pretending to be an adult and walking your toy dog around. Unfortunately, these pull-along toys provide a serious risk of entanglement and strangulation. This may not be the best option for your loved ones this holiday season.

No one wants to take the fun out of the holidays. Toys are an essential part of the holiday season, especially if you have children, grand-children, nieces or nephews. That’s why we care about the hazards of certain toys. We want to wish you a safe and happy holiday season.
